Exciting news for job seekers and aspiring overseas workers! New Zealand has announced two brand-new Seasonal Work Visa programs set to open in December 2025, creating more pathways for individuals to work, travel, and gain international experience in one of the world’s most beautiful countries.
Expanding Opportunities for Global Talent
These new seasonal visas are designed to address workforce shortages in key industries like horticulture, agriculture, and tourism, while giving foreign workers the chance to experience New Zealand’s vibrant culture and lifestyle.
Eligible applicants will be able to work for approved employers for a limited period, typically during high-demand seasons. The government aims to make the process simpler, faster, and more transparent, ensuring that both employers and employees benefit.
What Makes These New Visas Special?
✅ Two new visa categories for seasonal employment
✅ Open to multiple nationalities with simplified documentation
✅ Short processing time and strong employer support
✅ Opportunities to earn, learn, and explore New Zealand’s scenic beauty
These programs are a part of New Zealand’s effort to strengthen its workforce, support local industries, and encourage international cooperation through fair and ethical employment.
The Two New Visa Categories
Global Workforce Seasonal Visa (GWSV)
Peak Seasonal Visa (PSV)
Both visas are designed to help AEWV-accredited employers hire workers for genuine seasonal roles, while ensuring fair conditions and preventing misuse of the system.
Most of the visa conditions will remain the same as other AEWV categories. However, if applicants wish to change any conditions (for example, their employer or work location), they must apply for a Job Change through Immigration New Zealand.
Global Workforce Seasonal Visa (GWSV)
The Global Workforce Seasonal Visa (GWSV) is aimed at workers involved in long-term seasonal jobs such as horticulture, viticulture, or agriculture.
Key Features and Requirements:
Applicants must have at least 3 seasons of relevant experience within the last 6 years.
Workers must spend a minimum of 3 months outside New Zealand each year.
Visa validity: Up to 3 years.
Applicants must meet standard health and character requirements.
No English test required.
Employers using this visa do not need to advertise locally or undergo a labour market test.
This visa offers more stability for experienced seasonal workers who return to New Zealand year after year.
Peak Seasonal Visa (PSV)
The Peak Seasonal Visa (PSV) is designed for short-term, high-demand periods when businesses need additional workforce support — typically in tourism, agriculture, or hospitality.
Key Features and Requirements:
Applicants must have at least 1 season of experience within the last 3 years.
Visa validity: Up to 7 months.
For roles longer than 3 months, workers must have comprehensive health insurance.
No English test required.
Employers must advertise the job locally and show evidence of attempting to hire New Zealanders before recruiting from overseas.
